Liposuction Surgery in San Francisco, California
The surgical procedure called liposuction allows a skilled cosmetic surgeon to reshape and contour areas of excess fat on a person’s neck and body by removing localized collections of fat. This is not a treatment for obesity. However, in the right patient, this procedure can have dramatic results. Your clothes can fit more comfortably and you may feel more confident about your appearance. You can have a new slimmer contour with reduced fat in desired areas.
For most patients, Dr. Salomon prefers the Vaser ultrasound assisted liposuction technique and have been very pleased with the results. Liposuction is best used for patients who weigh within 20 pounds of their ideal body weight. Through this technique, fatty areas on the body which have not responded to diet and exercise, can be removed. After the fat is removed, the skin will shrink to fit the new contour. Changes with liposuction are permanent. The actual cells that are removed will not return. Any weight gain after the liposuction will make any existing cells larger, but if you have a disproportionate number of fat cells on your tummy, that disproportion will be corrected with liposuction. The Vaser ultrasound assisted liposuction techniques delivers ultrasound waves to basically “melt” the fat prior to it’s removal. The liquefied fat can then be removed with much less difficulty, less bleeding and less trauma to the surrounding structures than with conventional liposuction. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks and possible complications associated with Liposuction. These include the general risks of surgery and anesthesia as well as those specific to the body contouring. During the consultation, Dr. Salomon will have a discussion regarding these risks and benefits. The Cost of the procedure varies depending on the number of areas to be suctioned, volume of fat to be removed, and the time involved in the procedure. The estimated costs of this procedure will be discussed with you during the initial consultation.
Once the liposuction surgery is completed, a compression garment may be worn over the operated areas. These garments help to reduce swelling and bruising, leading to a more rapid recovery. They also help the skin to recontour and shrink as much as possible. Generally, the garments are worn for 4-6 weeks. The down time following this surgery will vary depending upon the volume of fat removed and areas treated. Generally, small-volume liposuction patients can return to work after several days, others may need 7-10 days of recovery.
Liposuction is a simple and effective way to remove stubborn fat deposits. It can improve body shape and proportion. Liposuction is not a cure for obesity or an eating problem. Liposuction may improve cellulite in some cases but is not a cure for the problem of cellulite.
